TerraGold Plus was created in order to better serve our collective friends, family, and, let’s face it, ourselves. We knew there was a void in the market for pure, plant-based medicine. We were tired of prescription drugs that were expensive and frankly made us feel bad. We created TerraGold Plus CBD and we have been fortunate to help many people and look forward to providing innovative and unique products to serve our customers better.
However, our customers kept asking — “Are you coming out with a pet formula?”
Well, we did some research and found out that CBD provides equally as many benefits for pets as there are for humans! CBD for pets has been a growing industry for a few years now and we have heard about many people giving CBD to their dogs. In Colorado, and most of the country, dogs and any pets are like family members and their optimum health is super important to the whole family.
We understand that if your furry friend gets sick, you will do anything to help them. Back in 2009, our little Miki (maltese, papillon, and japanese chin mix) was picked up by an owl and dropped. She broke ribs, lacerated her belly and her body temperature dropped almost 20 degrees. She spent a week in the emergency room and she never fully recovered. Unfortunately, we didn’t even know about CBD for dogs back then.
Here on the blog, we have talked extensively about how important the endocannabinoid system is for humans. So it is important to point out that the same endocannabinoid system that exists in the human body also exists within all mammals, birds, reptiles, and fish.
The same CBD benefits apply to your pets as they do for you. Some of those benefits include:
- Pain relief
- Anxiety relief
- Separation anxiety
Is CBD oil safe for my Pet?
The answer is yes. All mammals have an endocannabinoid system and therefore respond well when CBD is introduced. CBD is non-toxic and will not get your fuzzy companion stoned.
What it will do is offer a relaxing pain relief for any joint pain that they may be experiencing. Most animals, especially dogs, are very active. They jump on to furniture, on to you, or just constantly sprint to follow their noses. Those joints can get worked extremely hard. When your pup begins to age and they begin to move a little slower or perhaps it takes a little longer for them to get going, CBD can help. It is a natural anti-inflammatory that not only reduces pain, but also decreases inflammation in those joints or arthritic areas.
What CBD does it attach itself to the CB1 and CB2 receptors in the endocannabinoid system. This connection helps awaken those receptors in the brain, nervous and immune systems. Allowing the bond between the CBD and the body’s natural ability to heal increases the rate and response of the receptors in the body.
The ECS has many receptors all over the body and when you introduce certain molecules to the system they will bind themselves to the CB1 and CB2 receptors. These receptors interact with cannabinoids very similarly, but in fact look differently and support different areas of the body.
The CB1 receptors are mainly found in the brain and nervous system, while the CB2 receptors can be found in the immune and gastrointestinal systems. Scientists are researching and discovering ways in which natural and holistic options can help communicate with the receptors.
The CB1 and CB2 receptors are already functioning in the body, but when exposed to CBD the receptors come alive. These receptors start working at a higher level, which causes so many great benefits for your pet. That’s why CBD helps alleviate so many issues your animal may be experiencing. CBD is the support your pet’s ECS needs to help balance sleep patterns, calm anxiety, reduce inflammation and more!
When choosing the right CBD oil for pets, it is important to choose products from a reputable source and oils or treats that do not have other chemicals or ingredients that are unnecessary or harmful. At TerraGold Plus Paws we believe in providing the very best for not just you, but also your pet. That is why we choose to formulate our CBD pet line with MCT oil as a carrier oil with the CBD.
In our CBD pet line we use MCT oil from Coconuts. MCT oil has become a very popular supplement within the last 5 years as it contains many essential fatty acids that the body needs. According to the American Kennel Association, MCT oil has shown positive results in boosting the immune system, aiding in weight loss, working as an anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal, and improving cognitive skills in patients with Alzheimer’s.
The AKC continues to point out that MCT does not have enough fatty acids, especially Omega 6 and 3 so it is important to use MCT as necessary and not as a replacement to their daily diet.
CBD has shown the ability to increase appetite so using CBD and MCT oil for dogs having issues with digestion or lack of appetite may increase their ability to get the necessary fats and calories they need on a daily basis.
CBD studies in both humans and pets continue to be conducted and we hope that further research will fundamentally show the many benefits of CBD combined with MCT for all animals.
When giving CBD to your pet, we recommend doing so when you can watch them. If you have any concerns about safety, please also talk to your veterinarian first. More and more vets are introducing CBD into their practices as they too understand that an abundance of vaccines, shots, and prescription drugs may not be good for your pet. You know your pet the best and understanding their behaviors will be the best indicator of how well the CBD is helping them.
We will discuss in more detail about how to dose your pet with CBD in future articles, but it is imperative to start small. The size of the animal really matters. We recommend small doses throughout the day to help them. If you see your dog becomes drowsy or perhaps has dry mouth it may be a good idea to decrease the amount of CBD you gave them.
To administer the oil for your dog, we recommend simply giving the proper dose directly into their mouth. We have found that our dogs like the taste of the oil combined with the nutty flavors of the coconut. The TerraGold Plus Paws does not contain any additional flavoring like bacon to induce the animal to like it more. Our experience is that the animal knows it makes them feel better and will seek it out as a treat once they get accustomed to it.
